The award is given in recognition of an artist's accomplishments, artistic growth, originality and potential. It is not need-based.

Unrestricted Funds are awarded two times a year, and are selected through a jurying process made up of individuals who are L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ leaders of color serving a wide range of industries. The first award will be through a nomination process and will provide 5 artists with awards of $5,000. The second award is available through a free and open application and provides 10 artists with $1,000.

FAQ

  • Why unrestricted?
Restrictions on funds are imposed upon the recipient by the donor to fulfill a preconceived need defined by the donor. Providing unrestricted funds gives the recipient full control to utilize the funding in a way that is most beneficial and meaningful to their life and practice. By unrestricting funds we can redistribute power and resources to individuals rather than impose metrics of success and value upon them. These funds are distributed with an aim to support equity.
